Questionable programming decisions have made Speed the television network equivalent of bacon-flavored tampons. So it's news when they make a great choice like broadcasting the Bathurst 1000 V8 Supercars race on October 8th.
V8 Supecars is the ideal racing series for America. For NASCAR fans there's booming V8 engines in RWD cars built by familiar brands. For fans of F1 and Le Mans racing there are right turns. For individuals with a pulse there's an exciting and dangerous setting. Mt. Panorama is no joke. Most Americans don't know who Jamie Whincup is. They haven't seen Shane Van Ginsberg drift an entire lap (unless they read Jalopnik). But they'll learn.
The biggest problem with V8 Supercars is that the races are set in a place called Not America, something that will be rectified in a couple of years. The race is at 7 PM EST on SPEED. Here's hoping they don't screw it up.
