The first day of practice and qualifying at Le Mans was a busy one yesterday with Audi and Peugeot battling out it, people flying off the track, and red flags galore. Here are photos of the exciting opening to the 2011 24 Hours of Le Mans.
It seemed as if the boys from Ingolstadt had the day wrapped up in their shiny new Audi R18s until around midnight when Stéphane Sarrazin in the Pug 908 went out to set a ripper of a lap with a 3:27.033, putting the French ahead of the next three Audi cars.
In LMP2 the Strakka Racing HPD car nosed out the two Oreca Nissans. GTE Pro looks awesome this year with the BMW M3 GTs, Ferrari 458 Italias, Corvettes, Porches, and even a Vantage all within a couple of seconds of each other.
There's two more qualifying sessions today, giving everyone else a chance to qualify and get their position on the grid. More live-timing info here and spotter guides here.
