President Barack Obama's first trip to Ireland began with less luck than expected today when his Cadillac limousine scraped to a halt on a ramp at the U.S. Embassy in Dublin. It's hard to defend against leprechauns.
One of the older limos (not "The Beast" — which is actually a General Motors medium-duty truck dressed in Cadillac sheet metal and fortified with top-secret levels of armor and other protection) — was stuck for several minutes while the Secret Service worked to free it. President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama (or as the Irish have dubbed them, the O'bamas) had to transfer to the backup limousine the Secret Service hauls around the world. As the video shows, the Irish crowd was sorely disappointed at their loss of entertainment, but as one commenter notes: "Oyrish roads, putting the 'dent' back into "president" since 2011."
Maybe they should have had a horse outside?
Given that its the first trip abroad Obama has taken since U.S. Navy Seals killed Osama bin Laden, security for the trip has been ratcheted up — so much so that when Obama steps into an Irish pub for a pint of Guinness later today, the beer will come from a keg brought from the United States. What kind of world do we live in if Ireland is BYOB?
