Secret "Dukes Of Hazzard" Fan Jalen Rose Selling Confederate-Free General Lee

Rose, whose mainly comments on basketball now for ESPN, plans to open the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy in Detroit this fall, pledging to prepare up to 480 high-school-age students for college. To raise money, Rose has donated a '69 Dodge Charger billed as one of the last four transformed into General Lees for Hazzard duty. (The show used some 240 Chargers, destroying one every time Bo and Luke jumped a creek to outwit Rosco and Enos or get to Daisy before the dynamite went off and trapped Uncle Jesse in the abandoned mine. Who says TV at an early age damages young brains?)

Of course, the General Lee wasn't just named for the hero of the Confederacy, but came emblazoned with its flag on the roof. After buying this General Lee in 2001, Rose used paint and vinyl to change the car's name to "Longboy" — his grandmother's nickname for him — alter the door number to match his number at Michigan and cover up a pro-slavery symbol that still gets people upset today.

Otherwise, the Charger's been coddled with luxury interior touches, chromed engine parts and under-trunk autographs from Rose and "Hazzard" actor John Schneider. With a starting price of $45,000 and a top bid of $100,000, having a car known for playing "Dixie" help children in Detroit isn't that big of a jump.
