Welcome to Down On The Street, where we admire old vehicles found parked on the streets of the Island That Rust Forgot: Alameda, California. It's time we got caught up on the DOTS Beetle Backlog.
Most of the time, I don't even notice VW Type Is parked on the street in Alameda. They have always been here, it seems, and they don't really stand out as anything special. However, this '61 is such a beauty that I had no choice but to photograph it immediately.
Of course, the '48 Plymouth Deluxe Six and super-clean '60 VW Transporter parked nearby let me know that I was in the right neighborhood. That's right, the same guy owns all three cars. He says the VW is pretty much all original, with a bit of floorpan rust but nothing too serious, and that it gets driven every day.
