In 1950s Paris, tour operator Groupe Cityrama commissioned French coachbuilder Currus to create hyperfuturistic double-decker buses built atop a Citroen U55 truck chassis. The result? The Citroen U55 Cityrama Currus, Flash Gordon's bus.
The Cityrama buses were built exclusively as tour buses in the bustling post-war era of Paris, when optimism and looking to the future was the order of the day. Underpinned by Citroen's workhorse U55 chassis, Currus designed a daring, Flash Gordon/Buck Rogers double-decker bus with elegantly curved, wrap around glass at all vantage points. The roof was also all glass and could be configured for open-air driving during summer months. Its outrageous styling managed to get it into several movies of the era, including Le Corniaud and Zazie Dans Le Métro. The pointy roof ornament above the driver seems a perfect way to spear that treacherous Ming the Merciless, should the opportunity ever present itself. [
