During Monday's auto restructuring plan announcement, President Obama specifically mentioned Buick's impressive quality credentials. Despite the Commander-in-Chief's shout-out, Buick didn't see a rise in internet traffic. What happened to the magic of "The One?"
We e-mailed Buick spokespeople to ask whether they'd seen a "bump" from the Obama quasi-pep talk and were told the Buick homepage has seen little to no change in traffic since President Obama said:
"And no one can deny that our auto industry has made meaningful progress in recent years - and this doesn't get talked about often enough. Some of the cars made by American workers right now are outperforming the best cars made abroad. In 2008, the North American Car of the Year was a GM. This year, Buick tied for first place as the most reliable car in the world."
Ranked somewhere around #70,534 based on web traffic on not-usually-correct-but-good-for-a-general-idea Alexa (we're #3,161 by way of comparison), Buick isn't exactly lighting up the internet. Compared to supposed competitor Lexus with a rank of #11,002 and Lincoln, ranked around #46,120, it seems Buick's got a long way to go when it comes to the youngsters on the internet. Gee, wonder why that is?
