If you're not inclined towards doing the wrenching yourself, make sure your car has been recently tuned up by a trusted mechanic. Your Owner's Manual should tell you at what number of miles what checks should occur. Common tasks include:

• Check the fuel filter
• Check the spark plugs
• Check the fluids and refresh/replace
• Replace the air filter
