At first glance, this may appear to be just another box-on-wheels Range Rover, but this is actually supposed to be the 2009 Range Rover Sport. Look closely and you'll notice the front end has been subtly reshaped to feel a bit more like the recent Land Rover LRX Concept. Yawn. So they re-drew a few lines, what's the big deal? According to the spies, the 2009 model will be available with a new 5.0-liter V8.
This new powerplant from Land Rover will have direct injection, and on the Range Rover Sport it'll be fitted with a supercharger. That means the SUV will have 500 HP to go play in the mud with. Of course, most will never see anything more than a cobblestone street or a gravel driveway. The real challenge for the Range Rover Sport will be if it can out-pose those pesky Porsche Cayenne Turbos in the mall parking lot. What we're really excited for is to see if that new V8 makes its way into any Jaguars. Who doesn't want a 500 HP XKR?

Think the roll cage will make production? I think not.
Mall? How plebian.
I'll be parking on top of the big earthen berm next to Whole Foods.
That's fine put the 500hp V8 in the Sport. It's when they put it in the regular one that makes me nervous.
@BRDHNTR: Turkey Time: The sport is cheaper than the 'regular' Range Rover.
I hope Ford kept a copy of the plans for that engine when it sold the company.
Probably not, though. That would make too much sense.
Rollin' in my five-point-oh
Got the liftgate up
While my air-con blows
The girlies in car seats
Fighting over Hi-C
Do ya stop?
No I just count three
Kept on pursuin' to the next stop
I bust a left and I'm headin' to the next shop
The shop was closed, yo
So I continued to A1A (beachfront avenue)
My girls were hot wearing shorts and tankinis
DVDs and their collection of Beanies
I really like the current Range Rover Sport Supercharged. I feel LR did a great job in designing the vehicle, very aesthetically pleasing to the eyes.
If I was a well to do yuppie, I would definitely have one for my stable, even if it's for my hot wife to go shopping with all day.
If you have to ask, "how many miles per gallon?", you can't afford it.
It wouldn't fly down at the Piggly Wiggly or CO-OP.
Needs more Tatas...
@AshWipe:CCan't top that. I leave the field of this thread to you, sir.
See? I'm so impressed I stuttered!
Flabbergasted!
@HIDGolf:
For a really interesting fact, try to get your head around that:
The RR is lighter than the RR Sport and gets better 0-60 times!
They've come a long way from the anemic 3.9 liter in the 1990 Range Rover County I had years and years ago. My wallet still hurts from that thing, though, so no chance a modern Land Rover product will ever stain my driveway again.
Oh, and "box on wheels" is a good thing to some people, especially in today's market where even a truck is supposed to look "sporty." I wish Volvo still made the 240.
@dculberson: My wife's dad had one of those (maybe a '91) as a daily driver.
I can't say I've ever been as terrified in a road-going vehicle EVER. Narrow track, short base, big/heavy body...and two live axles. How the Yuppie crowd flocked to those things, I will never understand.
^^ mutually exclusive (didn't mean the only buyers were yuppies, but that they disproportionately seemed to like them for no apparent reason)
@AshWipe: Yeah, you get used to the wallowy ride after a bit, and kind of grow to like it (just don't push it in corners!). But the ~190hp just isn't enough to push over 2-tons of vehicle - 3 tons fully loaded!
It was phenomenal off road, but I didn't want to keep fixing it.
My dad kept his. I totaled up his receipts a few months ago: $36k in repairs in 5 or 6 years. That's over and above the reconditioning, paint job, etc that he had done prior to all that. That's required maintenance/repairs alone. Woof!
