Last time we brought you photos of the 2009 Cadillac XLR it was hidden behind a forrest of trees. This time we've got a great shot of the new XLR roadster in the buff. The new XLR is basically a re-skinned Corvette that's set to be unveiled to the public later this year, which may explain why it's running around without any tape on. The Art & Science look is still in full effect though not quite as angry looking as the previous generation. You'll notice the new grille and restyled fog lamps immediately, which help move the design forward. Spy report below the jump.
Caught - Without Camouflage: 2009 Cadillac XLR!Just In: We just caught the '09 XLR without even an inch of
camouflage - exposing the new front fascia - including a new
grille and restyled fog lamps. In addition, the XLR will be wearing a
bit more jewelry - in this case, it will be chrome vents on the
fenders.Watch for an official debut of the 2009 XLR in the coming months.
And this time they didn't have to climb a tree to get it.

Oh, thank goodness. I was afraid there weren't any upcoming new models with stick-on fender vents.
maybe it's because i don't pay much attn to cadillac, but what's different besides the front fascia?
That's a secret proving ground called the Nord-Schlafe. Zzzzzzzzz.
@StuPidaso: The model year
This car has not aged well, it was ok a few years back but now, it looks like an Allante.
@StuPidaso: STICK-ON FENDER VENTS, DAMMIT!!!!
Are Fender Vents the new fashion accessory for cars? Like all the previous fashion disasters in the past; Rubber Rear Spoilers, Vinyl Roofs, Opera Windows, Rear Wings, Altezza Tailamps (I'm looking at Nissan/Lexus/FoMoCo), Rear Luggage Racks..... and I could go on and on...
i don't think chrome looks good on anything anymore unless it is old.
just took another look at the car. the wheels look like they came off a 90s deville. the whole exterior just does not look right. there is no flow to the car's exterior just like before. it seems to have been designed on a computer and borrowed sections from different designs rather than by an artist with pen and inspiration.
What is the "Art and Science" look? Is that just code word for "lots of sharp edges"? And I'm gonna give the XLR a resounding "meh". If I wanted a Corvette, I'd just get a Corvette, I don't need to make the statement that owning a Cadillac implies.
@UDMan: Agreed. Needs more Landau top.
@UDMan: I'm a bit partial to rear luggage racks.
You mean a re-rebodied Corvette platform, right? The current XLR already uses the C6 platform.
GM sells 3,000 - 4,000 of these a year, with massive rebates. It's a spectacularly bad idea to spend another development dollar on this car at this point.
Big fat wide happy fella instead of big fat wide frowny fella.
Fender Vents what do they really do they don't make it more aerodynamic not save'n you on gas and they just don't look good ......
@UDMan: The "altezza" lights came from the Toyota Altezza, what a coincidence huh?
Everyone decided to copy, not Toyota/Lexus fault.
They look tasteful on my IS300... the '94 Civic down the street is a different story.
i do not think anyone will notice the difference
Honestly looks like a bodykit for a C6 to make it look like a caddy.
@ash78: Anmerkung des Tages.
The addition of the chromed-plastic side vents are like waking up one morning and discovering your wife has grown muttonchops. At first, much like a train wreck, you can't look away, then the gravity of the situation becomes apparent and you realize that you may no longer be seen in public with her. Damned short-term fashion trends!
This car never appealed to me. And the fake side vents look ... stupid.
Reskinned Corvette..... dear god....
Caddy's Art and Science, and the XLR in particular are my guilty pleasure of automotive lust.
I know they're not going to age well. I know it's just a re-skinned vette without a manual transmission (boo!).
But the "curves are the Devil's tools!" design just gets be all worked up.
New grille, huh?
They forgot the T-tops!
Ugh, another car with side vents. It would have been a little better had they made them look like the ones on the new CTS, but the way they did these, along the door line, looks horrible. Why are they bothering to continue making this?
honestly, i didn't notice sh*t. I never see these on the road (& I live in FL which is caddy country) so i don't know what differences to look for.
At 6'3", this is a scary car with the top down.
I drove it at a test-event out at El Toro and I was constantly afraid that a rock was going to fly up and lodge itself in my forehead...
@Ω βгåғғ™ ۞: You know that GM doesn't utilize its quarry training facility anymore, so yeah that could happen.
On a lighter note... This car will at least be closer to a luxury corvette.
Wow, this car looks...different? oops, I died of boredom. Darn, I mean argh.
look at those mirrors.....
Lensman Mr. Doane bags TWO Caddies in one day... I wonder what the legal limit is before he has to go into 'catch and release' mode...
To me, the front end looks like a cake that has fallen while baking. The side vents are very "me too" and too late to the game. Car companies need to give up on the chrome side vents, they have no purpose in most cars and look cheap.
@charles_barrett:
17.
Fake fender vents only look good on turbo K-cars.
"Designed by a man using only a ruler" as Jezza so elequintly said about "Art and Science."
I, however, really dont give two craps about the outside, i think it looks fine. I just hope they upgraded the interior from something better than the Cadillac version of a Lada. (that was a hyperbole also)
At first glance, the first picture gave me the impression that Cadillac was building an X-El Camino.
@Dr. Schm is better than you, and I knows It!: Well said. Opinions vary on the exterior (I think the last version was quite nice in the flesh, this one seems no worse), but that interior was total shit for the money. Caddy, you want to sell a tarted up Corvette? Then tart the fucking thing up, for pete's sake.
Um, I think you mean "naturist."
That's "naturist."
I have an multiyear emotional boner for a big two-door Caddy roadster with a huge engine, but....this still isn't it, I refuse to admit this is a worthy successor to the prewar greats.
spot the difference
@brownie:
If you ever actually sit in one, you'll realize the interior isn't bad- this "GM has lousy interiors" rant is passe, dude;
That said, the exterior does suck- Cad designers had a sweet spot going for about two years, then got left behind once again..... Creases not working, kids.
Can't help but think when you see one of these things "for another 10K, the tightass coulda had an SL...."
Oh, and lose the Range Rover fender vents- good lord.....
Will the speedometer still have a Bulgari bezel around it, to try to convince the valet that he's parking a nice car?
I love sport/luxury cars, but Cadillac somehow fails despite starting with a fucking Vette. Sad.
