Now, we can't say for sure what sort of transaction was captured on film by the Google Street View photography vehicle; perhaps the Illinois gentleman with the roll of bills is negotiating for the purchase of an 80s Ford LTD. Whatever it is, we're seeing free enterprise in glorious effect here. Take that, Commies! Thanks to LTDScott aka Porcubimmer_4_Lyfe for the tip! [Google Maps]

If you scroll down the street a couple of clicks and swivel the view, you can see that it's a Grand Marquis. You can also see the license plate clear as day.
Haw.
Ah, fond memories of hot boxin' in my '86 Crown Vic...
Looks like there is a quickie mart across the street. He could be going into the store for them.
GoogleDealer - coming soon to Google
You are so gettin' popped.
I for one am apprehensive about the proposed Google Ceiling Cat.
If you look closely, you'll see that it's two pictures put together.
What a job. "Please drive this not totally inconspicuous vehicle with tons of camera equipment slowly through the hood."
Whats next, Google toilet cam?
@BLS: Not long ago, I worked for a company that did software for wireless-phone companies. One of our things was to send vehicles packed with radio equipment on test drives to get signal levels, hitting every street in an urban area. So here you have a rented minivan with about 25 weird antennas stuck on the roof and a couple guys hunched over equipment in the back, cruising slo-o-o-wly (you go about 15MPH to get the best results) through the 'hood. Lots of scary interactions with members of the Urban Free Enterprise Community who took it for some kind of heavy copmobile, and a few up-against-the-wall scrapes with Homeland Security who figured they had some sort of heavy terroristmobile; one of the test engineer teams consisted of a Lebanese guy and a Pakistani guy- both nerdy PhDs with green cards (but try explaining that to a rookie cop who thinks he's busted Osama himself). You can imagine the hilarity that ensued.
So I figure the Google Street View cars get much the same reactions.
Oh Google Streetview, how you continue to entertain us with your unintended antics!
@danio3834: we can only hope!
Gotta love that it's in a school zone...
@Murilee Martin: I too used to work for a certain mobile company that did these drive tests. We also used a minivan full of Pakistani and Indian techs to perform these tests. We also did these in small-town Wisconsin...at 3am. We also had to bail them out when 6 Whitewater squads surrounded their van.
To think that when the overview map pops up, you can see my place. I think I've ridden my motorcycle through here before, though these areas all look the same in Chicago.
Google street maps has a competitor called MapJack...
Caught me smoking outside my building...I saw the car go by but thought he was moving to fast to take pics (30 mph)...thats me with the HL2 shirt and cigarette...

i just notice the date in the upper left corner of the image that says april 2007...this took place about a month ago so I'm not sure what that means.
Do you guys even read your sister site Gawker?
May we suggest you take a look at this post from yesterday, since it is about the exact same thing!
Wow,a "possible" drug deal on S. Vincennes.
Looks like Google took it down! Boo!
yeah its gone, but not from all angles (or at least not yet, go to the north end of the street)
