A man by the name of Jesse Vigil has decked out a 2007 Mustang to look like Barricade the Saleen Mustang from Transformers and not surprisingly, the local cops don't approve. Much to the delight of Transformers fans everywhere, including Vigil's son and the inspiration for the mod, the cops can't do a damn thing as long as Vigil isn't impersonating the police.
Despite not being a Saleen, the car is a fairly solid replica. It include the slogan "To punish and enslave and more. It does also include a non-functional siren bar. The police shouldn't bust Vigil's chops too much. He did the replica for his son after returning from Iraq. It should be illegal to bust the chops of somebody with those credentials. Maybe it was the badge that said "To Punish and Enslave".
I don't know, it's got more of a ring to it than the silly acronyms like S.I.R. and C.P.R., about service and Johnny-Do-Right helpfulness.
It's a bit hard to believe that rhetoric coming from an organization like the NYPD (C.P.R.), who once shoved a plunger handle up an (innocent until proven) guilty prisoner's rectum.
Decepticons dig the solid rear axle.
@Morphine:
Rectum? Damn near killed 'em!
Lame
it's a v6, he should be punished just for that.
Dick Knipfing?.....hahahaha.... I thought that was the best part..
I'd still take the Bluesmobile over this......
Various highway patrols really hated my black '89 Mustang LX 5.0 notchback back in the day. Of course, it also might have been because I was usually speeding...
While I don't want to get in a semantics debate, it's hard for me to see how driving around a car with the word "Police" on the sides and a lightbar on top that is designed to look real is not impersonating the police.
what a half-assed replica. In the end it's still a mustang. A 40 year old car in new sheetmetal.
I saw a black charger out on a run the other day with transformer logos everywhere a dodge ramhead logo used to be (hood, wheel hubs). Cool as I really liked that movie but you gotta figure that will get old soon.
Can't wait for the dealer markups on "bumble bee" camaros.
A disabled vet? Unless his disability is that annoying lisp I didn't see any disability on that guy.
I can't speak for that guy's area, but the Toronto Police tend to not advertise for movies. Also, they're more into the Autobots, but it's not an official position or anything.
Actually, come to think of it, is there even a Mustang Police Interceptor anymore?
@Morphine: The cops are just pissed they didn't think of "To punish and Enslave" first!
@Bumblebee: Yeah, I'm not quite sure what the legality is. I know when they sell old police cruisers, they have to take all the markings off, but if you reapply them yourself, is that "impersonating the police"?
@TheGuinnessTooth: That lisp may be the only obvious manifestation of his disability.
Wouldn't the "POLICE" on the side be a problem? That would be considered "Impersonating Police" here. And the fake light bar would be also because it looks like a real light bar, even if it doesn't work.
@TheGuinnessTooth: Maybe the lisp is the manifestation of a brain-injury induced stroke suffered while in the service BETCHA DIDN'T THINK A THAT HUH
o_O
Some truckers got real pissed at me for turning my Peterbuilt into an Optimus Prime replica....
@Teds: That's "Bumblebee."
@Client_9:
the best part of waking up...
is early COTD noms in my cup
The local authorities got pretty pissed when a group of friends and I altered our vehicles a bit...
We formed a group that we nicknamed the Mobile Armored Strike Command. We did this to compete with a rival group that called themselves the Vicious Evil Network of Mayhem.
I have some video of our rides...
+ Watch video
On the other hand, I did see a Charger police package as the pace car for some recent NASCAR race.
"The Family 2007 Ford Mustang"
shit, when I was a kid all we had was a family 1980 Chevy Malibu, complete with rust spots :-|
@bmoredlj: Yes, I saw that Charger at the Vegas race.
I need To Protect and Enslave Stickers for my cubicle at the office.
And an Autobot logo for the Grandma.
Yeah, the testicle-lickers at Autoblog drove a police-pack Charger on a test drive. It had the lights and the painjob with "Police" on it. I think it also had "not in service" painted on it somewhere. Apparently the cops weren't too happy about it, but it was legal.
All he has to do is shave his head and replace "Police" with "Polizei."
@smokeydog001: ...and replace the 6 gerbils with 8 gerbils.
I have seen the Ecto pulled over by a cop because of the lights on the roof. the driver got a ticket but did get out of it with a warning from the judge. Judge also said to put "not in service" on the light bars to be legal on the roads. How do I know this trivia, I was in the passenger's seat.
@Ω βгåғғ™: Not no nitpick, but it's Mobile Armored Strike Kommand. You do have some cool cars though!
We have seen a NYPD painted Crown Vic picture car (the ones you see on TV in shows like Law & Order) with a tarp over the light bar and gaffers tape covering the NYPD and POLICE graphics.
If you own a car that looks like I cop car or is an ex cop car you know you will be harrased by the fuzz. Having owned a few ex cop cars I know this. I say to the Las Vegas police, cut the man a break. The man is a disabled vet who wants to make his son happy and that buzzy old Ranger V6 won't do it.
@jonnyobrien: son of a bitch... I know that too..
Nobody watched M.A.S.C.
DAMN YOU NON-EXISTENT EDIT BUTTON!!
masc ftw. altho i was more of a galaxy ranger fan.
and am i the only 1 that making your car look like a movie car is about as cool as the surface of the sun?
@iin10ded: Nope... you're not the only one.
Not to get technical, but can a car "impersonate" anything? Is that even possible?
The whole cop argument is that SOME people pretend to be cops to commit crimes.
They should worry more about SOME cops who actually are criminals.
As stupid as this is, I'd trust a vet to not commit crimes more than I would trust the average cop not to.
This guy is a 'whacker' plain and simple.
I want to get into the Police Academy sometime down the road. If / When I do and someone actualy hands me a Badge. The first thing I wanna do is install a lightbar in my normal car. lol
@Ω βгåғғ™:
Holy shit, Braff...a M.A.S.K. reference? You just made my day.
I'm under the understanding that in NY, you have to say/represent yourself as a cop, and attempt to apprehend/arrest/stop someone.
Then again, IANAL.
Back in the decideddly 'colorful' late 60's in Manhattan Beach, CA; I helped a friend 'Policeize' A mid 50's Chevy 4-door sedan, which had started out all white. We painted the front and rear black and a funky star on each front door with a cartoon pig flipping the bird, over the word FUZZ. The icing on the cake was a real working gumball machine bolted to the center of the roof.
The local South Bay cops got a kick out of it, and would pull him over, drop a penny in the gumball get a piece of bubble gum and wave him on. We quickly learned not to take it to Sunset Strip tho', those Ramparts cops got NO sense of humor.
@dbol1977:
Yeah... I have an old Chevy Caprice, never used as a cop car, and plates that say FUZZMAN. I've been pulled over fewer times in that thing than in any other car I've driven.
Isn't it a light bar, not a siren bar?
@fuzzmanmatt: Maybe it was the spotlights or tinted glass. The ex New York State Police LTD Crown Vic I had got me and my dad pulled over when it was just purchased minutes ago. The reason, overly tinted glass. I seller of that car warned us of the several occasions she got pulled over by packs of cops because of the dual spotlights.
i saw one of the real transformers at phillip island on the weekend. totally freakin' sweet.
Thing that bugged me the most - how incredibly inaccurate the word "POLICE" on the side is in regards to proportion and size as compared to the screen car.
Everything else seemed pretty golden, but the huge detail was buggered.
not a very good replica....
only thing i see the same is the color and the decals. big whoop.
Yeah if you say "POLICE" on you're car, you are impersonating a police officer. It doesn't matter what else it says, or if a light bar is real or fake. You're telling people you're the police and that's very illegal. It's the same if you wore a police uniform out in public but never actually tried to arrest someone. Cars made for movies are just that, try it privately and they are going to get their fangs out over it. I'm sorry but making it for someone who served in Iraq isn't enough of an excuse for impersonating a police officer. That's just not a good enough reason to trick people and break the law.
