No, I'm not saying that I personally have a Nissan GT-R. I'm talking about Mine's, the Japanese Tuner of Gran Turismo and Best Motoring fame. Recently, they brought their R35 GT-R with all the Mine's go-fast goodies to the Tsukuba Circuit to do some testing, and they left with a best lap of 59.367 seconds. To put this in perspective, a normal R35 GT-R will run a lap of about 1:02, and a new Mitsubishi Evo X or Subaru STi will do it in about 1:06. To run a sub-one-minute lap is a benchmark for turbo-crazed JDM tuners. Of course, with a notable lap time, there are always factors (weather, driver) that have little to do with the actual car. Either way, the Their's Your's Mine's GT-R is indeed an impressive piece of kit. They've upgraded the suspension, exhaust, brakes, intake, rear spoiler, and the computer chip. Still in development are parts to further aid the aerodynamics of the mirrors, hood, front canards, front spoiler and side outlets. And what's even better— we hear they're bringing it to the US.
All we've heard is that Mine's is bringing their white test car here next month. We're not exactly sure why this mega-Godzilla is coming to our shores, but we thought we'd give you a warning now, just in case things go terribly wrong and the monster destroys a city or eats a helicopter or something. So by that methodology, couldn't you tune an STI or Evo to do that, too? Just chip it to some unsustainable level of boost, claim the lap time, and voila.
I get sub 60 second lap times on Tsukuba all the time in my A-class Mini in Forza 2...
@ash78: actually a highly modified Evo holds the record for the track last time I looked. And it was an Evo before it too.
Give me a reflash and some REO1R's and I'll match that time.
The suspension looks like some fairly high-dollar Sachs coilovers, probably some fancy 3-way or 4-way adjustable units. Other than some megabucks spent on suspension, the car looks fairly stock, and I'm pretty sure they could squeeze a lot more time out of it if they wanted, with significantly more power and some race-compound tires.
But I'm assuming they haven't conquered the car's babysitter-ECU.
I wonder if we will see a tommy kaira R35 soon.
@disgustepated: Actually I beileve it was the HKS Time Attack Altezza before the current Evo.
@ Mark Arnold -
please, there is no such thing as a loljalop.
I though nissan included some system so the car couldnt be chipped?
Who cares?? What will it do at Daytona or Fontana with a restrictor plate !!
In my college protest days, I had a fellow protester friend named Mine (mee-nay). We had protest art he created all over campus with his signature on it. The cops were all miffed at the mysterious (and extremely possessive) artist.
To stay on topic, the R32 will always be the best Skyline in my mind's eye!
So? Sabine can do it in 0:59.1 in a UPS truck. 0:59.2 when it's full of packages.
@Neoscape: Nissan is allowing a few of the big auto tuners such as Mine's and others a way around the deadlocked system so they can create proper tuned versions. I think the system is in place simply to stop any yahoo with a spanner and a laptop messing around with the settings and creating dangerous cars.
@Nayrlladnar:
My tuned RX-8 does it in 51.416... admittedly, on race tires. I also have a tuned Ford GT that'll do it in 47.232, but that car is insane...
I should try the SLR on it, now that i've perfected my "use the air brake as a spoiler" technique.
@Neoscape:
They did. But like all "content protection schemes" it's doomed to failure. That sort of thing is like storing all your money in a burglar's house and then never checking in to see if everything is fine. Even if you have a big safe it's still only a matter of time...
@elwood:
Mine's is actually pretty minimalistic, for certain definitions of "minimalistic". The theory is that their customers will further modify things, so they don't want to go crazy with stuff that's going to be ripped out anyway. The Mine's R34 was pretty effing crazy already, so this thing should be truly epic.
+ Watch video
(I hate how youtube links get parsed on this website...)
@ash78: Yeah. It's kind of silly when you're paying 40k for two seconds. Granted, the GT-R has a lot more fancy gizmos and such for the price, but when its twin-turbo'd v6 is only 2 seconds faster than a single-turbo'd 4cyl boxer, you're really in the realm of diminishing returns.
STI FTW.
@clank-o-tron:
I'm guessing the biggest difference between those two will be off the track. As in, one will be drivable and the other will not :)
@Nayrlladnar: Forza 2 laptimes are always WAY quicker than real life laptimes, mostly due to the horribly innaccurate track modelling. Road America and Road Atlanta are particularly bad.
Why... exactly are people talking about times on a video game, in comparison to real life cars ?
The Mines car that ran the 59 time, has a revised ECU, exhaust mods, and suspension mods on it.
Now as to why its coming to the US...you all will have to watch and see....
