The Detroit Auto Show opened up with the North American Car and Truck of the Year awards, which was questionably awarded to the Chevy Malibu and the Mazda CX-9. Today the EyesOn Design awards presented four awards for design excellence and at least three of the four winners made sense. The award for the best production car went to the Cadillac CTS-V, which is very deserving. Also deserving is the BMW X6, which won the best production truck. The best concept car went to the Cadillac CTS Coupe. The oddity was the best concept truck, which went to the Chrysler ecoVoyager. Calling the ecoVoyager a truck is like calling a dragon a virgin.

The ecoVoyager is a truck?! Did they win because all the other concept trucks are shockingly hideous?
Am I the only one who thinks the rear of the CTS-Coupe looks like Gungadeere?
WHAT? No Mazda Furai? This is obviously a travesty of justice.
All dragons would be virgins if those were their only four choices. No self-respecting dragon would touch the ecoVoyager, the X6 may very well be a lesbian, and do you honestly think the CTS coupe or CTS-V is letting anyone near their tailpipes?? Fuhgeddaboudit.
Well, I got a sawzall for Christmas, so we could whip out a quick 'amino job on that cute li'l thing...
I'm obviously missing something, but the X6???
Put a CTS Coupe and a Furai in front of Mr. Sandy Wong and see which one HE goes after.
I'm offended that you would generalize all dragons as hedonistic savages making auto-sex to any muscle car that strolls by.
I like to believe there are plenty of respectable dragons waiting for a long term committed relationship to the right car before they make sweet love. So I guess I find the eco-thingy trucklike, as I assume there are some pure dragons out there.
Now Sandy Wong's on the other hand are a bunch of sluts.
@FLB: Possibly it is the unrestraindness of the design, what with the eyes of leopard and all.
The Komodo Dragon is know for 'virgin births'
-Just sayin'
"Virgin dragon to give birth"
*known
I would say that the Eco Voyager is as much a truck as the X6, unless the X6 is body-on-frame...
@rlj676: Few animals are monogamous. Dragons are far too randy to settle down with one muscle car.
Imagine, if you would, that a dragon decided to settle down with say.. a 1983 Camaro. Then say a Z06 strolls by and raises its leaf springs. Do you think a dragon could resist? The Camaro is already mostly rust.
I'm assuming these awards only apply to the new reveals?
On that basis, the Cadillac CTS-V is deserving of best production car. The Fisker is still technically a concept so it doesn't qualify.
BMW X6 is an excellent choice for best truck. The pickups are dishwater-dull by comparison.
Best concept should have gone to the Fisker or the dragon's favourite; the Mazda Furai. It's a no-brainer.
The Land Rover LRX or the Hummer HX should've been best concept truck.
@jnostalgics: As I recall, Mr. Wong had a thing for Buick Centuries - that may just be a tough call. But the Furai has to be dragon-approved, it looks like one of their own.
And I honestly thought the CTS coupe was a production model. GM hinted at it a couple times in the past few months, I kind of assumed it was a bigger deal because that was what they wre going to be building (instead of 95% of what they were building).
If I had to choose the Ecovoyager or the A-BAT for a truck award I'd eat my own eyeballs instead. They're like the Platonic form of hideousness made flesh, er, aluminum und shteel.
@Euromobile: I think the RR Phantom should win the best production truck award...
@skaz:
Well, I've seen some things on the internet that would have me think NO HUMAN is a virgin by any stretch, but I'm pretty sure there are a few. So, just because we've seen the internet pornstars of dragons I wouldn't think them all grossly over-randy.
Also, the X6 over the F150 or Ram is aggregious.
@Rust-MyEnemy: Good call...
Well Im sure the awards will make lovely bookend on Bob Lutz's desk. or maybe wheel chocks for his jet.
.
.
And all I can do is tell you
I want you (CTS-V)
I'll tolerate you (X6)
I need you (CTS Coupe)
But -- there ain't no way I'm ever gonna love you (ecoVoyager)
Now don't be sad
'cause three out of four ain't bad
I kinda like the ecoVoyager, [jalopnik.com] and by auto-industry logic these days I think a Mazda Miata could probably somehow be classified as a truck. It's just that I was thinking the award should have gone to something more like the 2008 International ProStar. [www.internationaltrucks.com] ("most aerodynamic class-8 TRUCK")
While the CTS Coupe was a pleasant surprise, how in *&%^#@ hell did Best Concept not go to the R8 TDi? Maybe since the R8 is already in production it wasn't considered a concept? *sigh*
Well, two of the four winners are Cadillac's...seems the front end of the ecoVoyager wants to be a Cadillac...but it looks like a Caddy candle that has burned too long
Of all the people on earth, you'd think those in the auto industry would know the definition of truck.
The X6...REALLY?
You guys are terrible! You can't award the Chrysler 'truck' thing a design award if it stole the front clip off a Cadillac. If you cheat on an exam you fail. Same goes here... you steal a design so you should loose.
Secondly, don't call these (Chrysler + BMW) trucks when they're not. It doesn't matter what the marketing PR stuff says... if they can't haul manure, they're not trucks.
X6 is a TRUCK??
WTF?
ithought trucks hauled stuff ( inanimate stuff, not Soccer moms)

** ?? CAN ANYONE PLEASE FIND OUT IF THE ZR1 + CTS-V WILL BE AT GENEVA???
THANK YOU!!!
@CARBONFIBER: only a few announcements have been made about that show so far (new Mercedes C-class Sport Coupe will be there, as will the Audi Q5, and models from Infiniti and BYD). i can't find any announcement from GM, but i would think they would bring both of those models.
and you would get the same answer by not yelling the question...
The X6 is a truck in the same way that the new ZR1 is a zeppelin.
Which is to say, it is not. At all.
