Why The Ford Fiesta ST Is Too Hip To Be Cool

It's too good. Can a car be too good? The Ford Fiesta ST may be too good for its own good.

As Regular Car Reviews points out in the above video, the Fiesta ST is a small car. 1980s small car small. And it has power. Unhinged, turbo power.

It is exactly the car that American gearheads have been drooling over for decades now, the international hot hatchback formula that we got tastes of in things like the Honda Civic Si or the Focus SVT but never really got to sink our teeth into. The Fiesta ST is everything we wanted, everything we clamored for.

And it's excellent and wonderful and perfect, but it may just be too practiced and perfect to have the effervescent ease of a furious, blinding new discovery. It may just be too hip to be cool.

One point of contention: while we didn't get the current generation Fiesta till 2010, we did get the original Fiesta for a few brief gloriously shitty years in from '78 to '80, give or take a year. My first car was a '79 and it was the best first car for anyone because it was so wonderfully horrible.
