Before all-wheel drive took over the WRC in the '80s, the Porsche 911 was the only way to put big power down on loose surfaces. Here's a little tribute to the rear-engine marvel.

Porsches like these were supposed to be real beasts to drive on real rough roads, not exactly uncommon in 1960s and '70s rallying. They did, however, have huge engines and plenty of punch compared to their competition back in the day, before everyone figured out how to turbocharge the bejeesus out of small-displacement motors.

With a new crop of 911s entering the WRC, we'll see how peoples' attitudes towards these forgotten giants changes.
