Buyers are getting desperate to ensure one of the five thousand 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8's initially rumored to be available for purchase will end up nestled snugly in their garage. We've already told you about the pricing details on the SRT8 Challenger, and the impressive presale orders of Dodge's new muscle car, but now CNN is reporting buyers are bidding up to twenty grand on top of sticker for one of the reborn legends. The Mopar madness is reaching a fevered pitch folks.
Let's add this up. Base sticker is $37,995, gas guzzler tax will probably run another $2,000, and now top it all with a premium of $20,000 - grand total $59,995. If you throw in destination, title, and all that baloney, it's comfortably over sixty thousand dollars. We don't know if anybody is paying attention here, but that puts the new Challenger in the same price range as a very nice original Challenger. Madness, madness! Oh, and did we mention it now looks like Chrysler will be building a few more of the up-charged Mopars to keep up with demand? Silly over-paying muscle car fans. Do we blame them for wanting to play a role in the new muscle car wars? [via CNNMoney]
