We just saw the 2013 GL at the New York Auto Show, but it looks like Mercedes prematurely leaked three pictures of the upcoming AMG version before anyone was supposed to see it.
UPDATE Yeah, so Mercedes confirmed this morning that it's just the AMG body kit on a GL500. Boo. For some reason we want a GL 63 AMG.
The pictures aren't hidden at all; they're in a slideshow right on Mercedes' Future Models page. Most of the pictures in the slideshow are of regular 2013 GLs, but there are also three pictures of what looks like the AMG version.
Each picture has the disclaimer, "European models shown. Images are approximate only," but the basic GLs look exactly like the ones we saw in New York down to the American license plates.
There has never been a GL AMG before, but it could only have either the corporate 537-horsepower, 5.5-liter turbocharged V8 or the 621-horsepower, 6.0-liter turbocharged V12 from the upcoming SL65 AMG.
In terms of the exterior, all we can see are larger front air intakes and new five-point rims.
AMG rims are optional on all Mercs, but full AMG bodykits are not typically optional equipment. There's a chance this is just an appearance package, but what's the fun in that? We want an AMG GL. For some reason.
The last time a manufacturer leaked an upcoming model on their website, it was Cadillac with the XTS. They pulled the picture fairly quickly. How long will it take Mercedes to realize what they've done?
(Hat tip to Ramy!)
