The Alfa Romeo 4C is still a few months away from its U.S. launch and there are already updates planned for the sports car in order to maintain enthusiasm. Maybe Alfa's been looking at how the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ have been doing.

It could be that we've been too used to cars getting a facelift a few years after they're launched, with a full redesign coming a few years after that. But it looks like more and more carmakers are actually making significant improvements on a yearly basis to either address criticisms or sustain momentum. And if there's one thing Alfa needs is momentum.

In an interview with Top Gear magazine, Alfa's head of marketing Alberto Cavaggioni said the 4C would get updates every year to keep buyers interested. One update is to the controversial headlamps. The 4C Spider that premiered earlier this month in Geneva has covered headlamps that will also be offered on the coupe next year.

That Spider is expected to go on sale early next year.

Then there's the matter of more power. Cavaggioni told Top Gear that it wasn't out of the question, but who knows what that means. In short, don't be surprised to see a faster 4C sometime after next year.

Because it would be really disappointing if all they had to talk about for 2016 was another headlamp design on offer.
