Audi is the old master here, but has anyone learned to top them?
Last week we learned of some of the most atrocious uses of LEDs on automobiles. Too often they're abused and serve as nothing more than tacky jewelry marring on otherwise cohesive design. That's not to say that they can't serve a purpose and look good doing it. LEDs can make good cars look great.
One of the best examples of this is the dearly departed Saab 9-5. The 9-5, if you're into Scandinavian minimalism, is already a pretty car. It's clean and well proportioned, and doesn't need extra adornment. The LED's that reside in its headlights and taillights don't feel tacked on (like a Mercedes "L" E-Class lamp), but serve to enhance and accentuate the lines of the existing design. They also give it a distinct visual signature both from the front and the back.
The Saab 9-5 is a great example of LEDs done right, but sadly it is no longer with us. Can you think of a still living example of good LEDs on a car? (Though dead examples will be accepted, too.) Leave your suggestion in the comments.
