We got our first eyeful today, and now it's official. Jaguar is going to build a limited run of 250 F-Type Project 7s, and with 567 horsepower, it will be the quickest, most powerful road-going Jag available.

Inspired by the D-type, complete with the asymmetrical hump found on the concept last year, the Project 7 is amazingly close to the original. The windshield is shortened, the carbon fiber body kit adds a new front splitter, side skirts, and rear diffuser, and even with another seat added (the original was a single-seater), the Project 7 will weigh 176 pounds less than the standard Roadster while benefiting from 177 percent more downforce.

The same supercharged 5.0-liter V8 from the F-Type R is fitted up front, but it's been boosted by 25 horsepower and paired with an eight-speed automatic that promises to deliver a 0-60 time of under four seconds and a top speed of 186.

Suspension upgrades include new springs, adaptive dampers, and anti-roll bars, along with a brake-based torque vectoring system and carbon ceramic brakes. And if you're wondering about a roof, think Porsche Boxster Spyder – it's basically a roll of fabric you pull out of the trunk.

Sales begin next year, and it's the first project out of JLR's dedicate Awesome Division. And it's off to a good start.
