Why A Supercharger Really Is Just What The Scion FR-S Needs

"It's great, but it needs more power." This criticism is leveled at the Scion FR-S almost universally. I think it's just fine for what it is at about 200 horsepower, but since when are we all okay with "just fine"?

The UK's Car Throttle decided to see just how much better more power is by testing two tuned versions of the FR-S' identical British cousin, the Toyota GT86. The first is a GT86 TRD, tuned by Toyota to have better tires, a new front and rear splitter, better brakes, a freer-flowing exhaust, and absolutely no extra power under the hood.

The other car they test is a GT86 done up by famed tuning company HKS, and this one boasts a supercharger that increases power to 270 horsepower and 215 pound-feet of torque. Those are respectable numbers for such a small sports car; it now does zero to 60 mph in about 5.5 seconds.

How much better is the GT86 with a blower? Watch the video and find out, but I'm convinced it's the way to go if you own this car.
