I don't know if you heard about this at all or not, but this week was the Detroit Auto Show. We were there. We wrote some articles and did some tweets and even engaged in some go-karting.
While we were in town Audi generously hooked us up with an A5 2.0T (at the last minute, I'm told) that served as our ride around the D. And it was a great car. Heated seats, a very helpful nav system, snow tires, the fun-tacular TFSI engine and a manual transmission made it a nearly perfect car to cruise around in, even if squeezing five Jalopnik writers into one coupe was comical and a bit painful at times.
This got me thinking. What's the perfect car for cruising around the Motor City? While the Audi was awesome, ideally, you'd want something American when you're in the capital of the U.S. auto industry, not a big German luxo-coupe. (We listened to a lot of Motown to make up for this.)
My first suggestion was a Lincoln Town Car. Black, obviously, so you get that cool mobster vibe. Large enough to fit five or more people and their luggage, insanely comfortable, and packing rear-wheel-drive with a big V8, that would have been nearly perfect.
What do you think would be the ideal car for Detroit? Some old piece of American muscle, or some impressive post-bailout cruiser? Or you could be an asshole and suggest something like a Subaru. The weather is pretty bad there, after all.
