I love electric vehicles. For 99 percent of driving applications, an EV is just a better, more pleasant experience than its gas-powered counterparts. However, not everyone agrees with this sentiment, so they’d prefer if they were powered by good ol’ dino juice rather than electrons. That’s what led me to today’s question.
I want to know which EV you think would be better if it had a gas motor. In all honesty, I don’t really think there’s a single correct answer for this. As I said, EVs are great, and most of them would only be hurt if the automaker stuck a gas motor under their hood. To be fair, though, some automakers like giving buyers the choice between gas and electric. Just look at what BMW is doing with its “I” lineup and what Dodge plans to do with the Charger Daytona vs. Charger Sixpack. Those are both examples of nearly identical cars separated only by what powers them.
I’ve still got some ideas to get your creative juicing flowing. I want you all to bear in mind that I’d still prefer the EV version of this car if a hypothetical gas-powered variant existed. That being said, I feel like some sort of General Motors V8 Powered GMC Hummer EV could be pretty sick. I mean, I know it’s sort of garish and ostentatious as it is, but the thunder of a supercharged LT motor under the hood would be tough to beat. I respect what GMC has done — turning the Hummer into an EV — but I just think it would be sick if there was a massive V8 pulling that nearly 10,000-pound truck down the road. Sure, it’s silly, but who the hell cares? We’re just having fun here, folks.
