Welcome to the Jalopnik Weekend Motorsports Roundup, where we let you know what's going on in the world of racing, where you can see it, and where you can talk about it all in one convenient place. Where else would you want to spend your weekend?
Hey, remember those rumors about something happening with Rally America after the first of the year? They were just a bit wrong. Rally America is still alive and runnin', complete with the Waste Management Winter Rally staying on its calendar for 2015. The United States Rally Association hasn't released any information on what their season looks like yet, and really just plans on providing another option for rally organizers as a series, anyway. As in, "Hey, you have an event, so you can run it under our name and rule set if you want."
This is not the weekend that stuffed dinosaurs save rally, you guys. Sorry. We'll have more information on what's actually going on with the new USRA group when we get it.
Why am I talking about rally? Well, Rally America's Sno*Drift rally is this weekend. Only problem: we're not sure if and when there will be televised coverage of it. Dusty Ventures is out there somewhere, though, codriving a car that already broke an axle. Expect something to show up on The Rally Takeover, at the very least.
What else is going on? Well, that much-talked about Nissan commercial will be on sometime Sunday evening. That's really the only commercial I care about because race car. Time to reveal that sucker in full livery. 5:30 PM EST on NBC: be there or, meh. Can I root for a meteor to take both teams out? If you don't care at all about the Super Bowl itself, the commercial will likely appear on one of Nissan's channels: Nismo.tv or withdad.com. If you do care about seeing the Heinous Cheaters vs. Peehawks game and have cut the cord, congratulations, NBC is streaming the entire game here.
[UPDATE: Unfortunately, NBC's official stream doesn't have commercials after all. Fail. From posts made by Radio Le Mans and others, it looks like Nissan's embargo around the car ends around 8 PM, so keep F5'ing nismo.tv until it shows up, I guess.]
Aside from that, um, it's pretty dead. AMA Supercross is the only live event on TV this weekend. Turn the boob tube off, go outside and play, guys. Even I'm off doing a rallycross today because it's there, I'm in town and I can.
If you know about anything we missed, or about good livestreams out there, let us know in the comments below.
