There was a huge crash at the start of this weekend's Formula One race in Belgium, where one driver effectively took out four other cars from the race. It was nuts.
First-year Lotus driver Romain Grosjean got a good start, and pulled way over to the right for position into the first corner, a harpin. One of his right wheels got caught in one of the left wheels of Lewis Hamilton, and the two drivers lost control, t-boning the cars up ahead. Grosjean even managed to launch his car over Fernando Alonso, the leader in the championship. They also caused damage to the two cars from the lower-budget team Sauber, who had one of their best chances for a victory in this race.
Grosjeans was suspended from next week's race at Monza, mainly because he took out such high-profile drivers. If this had happened at the back of the field and a bunch of poor teams had been taken out, there would likely have been no race ban. Consistency is a problem for F1 stewards.
