Porsche seems intent on writing their greatest achievements as endurance racing victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. You could argue that hillclimbs, rallies, and road races are actually their defining character. Watch this video and you'll see what I mean.

The very first 911 race car was a rally car, all the way back in 1964. That car competed in the open-road Tour de France auto race.

The old Tour de France wasn't altogether different from today's Targa New Zealand, where this Porsche logged the fastest time up this particularly daunting Crown Ridge Pass.
