This Is How Apple CarPlay Works

With Apple CarPlay, the folks in Cupertino are attempting to create an in-car infotainment and smartphone integration system that doesn't suck. Here's how it will work on the Volvo Concept Estate coming to Geneva this week.

Basically, CarPlay puts the features of your iPhone onto the interface of your car, giving you access to messages, your phone calls, maps, your music and other apps via the central touch screen. It's so simple and straightforward that it almost seems like an obvious solution, and that's why it's genius.

Too often, the problem with infotainment systems is that they try too hard to do what your smartphone already does, but they do it in a way that's laggy and unintuitive. Why not just put the smartphone into the car itself?

I hope this works as well (and most importantly, as fast) as it looks in this video. I think this kind of thing, along with an Android equivalent, is the solution to our infotainment system woes. Expect to see it on the upcoming Volvo XC90 soon.

And every 6 months or so they will come out with a new generation Carplay and you will be so hypnotized into thinking it will be so much better that you will buy a new car at full price because your lease is not up on your current model. Only to find out that it is the same buggy interface as before with new colors and logos. but you will still tell everyone how amazing it is and how all other cars just copied it.
