The entire motorsports community is in mourning right now. Steve Byrnes, long time NASCAR commentator, has passed away after a long battle with cancer. He was 56.
Byrnes has been a part of the NASCAR community for decades and just celebrated his 56th birthday. I can’t do Steve justice, but this article from Holly Cain sure can. Read it.

Rest in peace, Steve.

DISCUSSION
This has been said before, but it’s important to note again: he knew how much he was loved and respected. All too often we wax poetic after the person is gone. While that will (rightfully) continue here, he went to his grave fully aware of the support he had, and how much he was loved.
NASCAR even named the race run right before he died after him. Not after he left us, but before. One of his final memories, is knowing that the very sport he covered for decades loved him. That’s powerful, and leaves me in tears.
