Happy Friday, we made it through another week unscathed — just about. How was yours? Mine has been mixed, truth be told, after I found out I don’t have to move apartments next month (good), went to see Sigourney Weaver in The Tempest (bad) and got a hefty repair bill for my saxophone (ugly).

I’m not letting that get to me though, because I’ve got an exciting weekend ahead with some fun plans and bike rides on the cards. To top it all off, there’s a new album from Victoria Canal to soundtrack the days off, so it’s all coming up gravy.

It’s that new album that I want to introduce you to today, as it’s a bit of a bop. Canal has been around for a few years, releasing singles and EPs here and there, but this is the Spanish singer-songwriter’s first full-length album.

If you want to get a taste of what the singer is about, then “June Baby” is a fun place to start. It’s all airy vibes, piano-led melodies and cutesy lyrics that talk of the excitement of a summer romance. If that isn’t enough to brighten up a cold January Friday, then I don’t know what is.

If “June Baby” floats your boat, then the rest of the album is sure to be a hoot - it’s called “Slowly, It Dawns” and is well worth a spin on your final drive to the office this week. Enjoy.
