Volkswagen will bring both the Vision GT Concept from Wörthersee and the Golf R 400 from Beijing to the Los Angeles Auto Show. Both cars are absolutely bonkers, but that won't stop VW from putting one of them into production.
And that's the thing. VW has both the guts and the money to turn their concepts into products to keep us happy.
Of course, when it comes to an open top GTI that was originally created purely as a CGI for Gran Turismo but was later turned into a show car using a twin-turbo 3.0 VR6 with 503 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque linked to a DSG and all-wheel-drive, they sort of have to draw the line. A 3,133 pound sports car with a top speed of 192 mph sure sounds great, but I doubt such a vehicle could keep its Golf badges.
On the other hand, the 394 horsepower R 400 can.
Since that means you can get a Golf that has 104 horsepower more than the 2015 Golf R that already has a pretty steep price tag at around $40,000, Volkswagen clearly believes that the Golf family can dive deeper into the premium waters.
But let the bean counters worry about who the buyers will be, I'm just glad Volkswagen wants to wow us.
