An irate reader checks in with the Modesto Bee, offering up a test of gaseous bovine lethality. He suggests that we take one person and put him in a garage with a continuously-running four-cylinder engine. Next door, put another person in a similar garage with ten, nay twenty, belching, flatulent cattle and see who walks out alive. The editor calmly explained that while gasoline engines emit deadly carbon monoxide, cattle offer up high levels of volatile organic compounds, which lead to smog, of which the San Joaquin Valley has an overabundance. And just try to tell rodeo cowboys, Pamplonan bull-runners, or Tara Reid that cattle can't be deadly.
