The Plywood Of Cobo: A Detroit Auto Show Preview

GM recently invited us to see its Detroit Auto Show stand while it was under construction. While there, we discovered the name of Cadillac's latest show car and peeked at the rest of the hall. Boxes, what do you hold?

Random Show Facts: The General's NAIAS stand takes up around 100,000 square feet of space. 85,000 feet of that is tagged for car display, with the rest earmarked for conference and hospitality areas. Forty vehicles will be displayed during press days, with another twenty-one cars added on for the public show. Although the stand is being constructed now, it's designed to be used for several other shows. Construction — a cadre of laborers are currently working around the clock — is scheduled to be completed by January 8th.

GM claims its lastest stand will make good use of touch-screen infotainment and a raised floor. No word on whether or not the free food will be worth a damn. (Cheese puffs! We want cheese puffs!)
