It's been more than a year since a Texan drove his $1.5 million Bugatti Veyron into a lake in the most expensive case of distracted driving yet known. Now you can own the baptized Veyron, but it needs work.
Up for sale on an insurance auction salvage site, the 2006 Veyron now has a salvage title as a flood-damaged vehicle. As with many waterlogged cars, the exterior damage seems minimal; missing headlight, slightly askew "Bugatti" badge, and a spoiler frozen in place.
Where the damage becomes more apparent is in the interior, as the Veyron's carpets, seats and electronics all took a nice soaking in the Galveston lagoon. While the engine compartment shows no visible signs of damage, there's rusted bolts on the undercarriage and Lord only knows what else inside the W-16, which kept running for several minutes while the car was in the water.
The sealed-bid auction has already drawn four bids, but ends Wednesday at 9 a.m. EDT. Most likely use: Creating the world's rarest cologne, AquaVeyron. Thanks Fredrik!
