Students at The Istituto Europeo di Design of Turin, Italy have redesigned their controversial conceptual take on the mid-engined Fiat X 1/9 of old, which they had introduced at the Geneva show back in March. Despite that the new concept is still a front-engine design (over the wails of protestation by Fiat heads) the students will present it, complete with removable Webasto roof, at the Frankfurt show. In Geneva, we saw lots of purists won over by its predecessor's rakish charm. Maybe they'll again be charmed by the conceptual X 1/99's recall of the spirit, if not the flesh, of the original, wedge-shaped roadster.
