Masters-level students from a design college in Turin, Italy will display, at the Geneva motor show, a design study evocative of Fiat's X1/9 sports car of the 1970s and 1980s. This one, however, will never be mistaken for a doorstop.

The X1/99 is based on the tiny, front-engined Fiat Punto platform, a departure from the mid-engined X1/9, but offers more space for golf bags or bits of hard cheese than the original did. The concept also sports a novel roof — a two-piece folding hard top created with German auto roofing shop Webasto.
