Next up in the 2005 Formula One parade of zillion-dollar go karts is Renault's newest contender, the R25. With an eye toward correcting understeer problems experienced with its 2004 R24 car, while updating components to meet new F1 regulations, Renault has focused most of its engineering attention on the new car's chassis. Renault has opted for a novel V-keel configuration rather than last year's twin-keel design or a single-keel setup favored by others. Still, it will keep a variation of the R24's reliable 72-degree V10 engine, which guided it into third place in overall points for the 2004 season, behind Ferrari and BAR-Honda. Unlike Honda, Renault actual beat Ferrari once.
