I could tell you that this song is about as electro as '80s electro got, but you could probably already guess that from the name of the band and the song title. What separates 'Mirda Rock' from its contemporaries is the story arc of the whole song, explained by Joe Stumble of the excellent (and now shuttered) blog, Last Days Of Man On Earth.
The simplicity of the tale Reggie spins rivals Sophocles in its minimalist artistry. We have three characters. The first is the Funk Computer and the saga of Mirda Rock is his saga. The second character is the Funk Computers’ nemesis who I shall call the Disco Overlord. The third character element is a group of Smurfs who function (in keeping with the Greek Theatrical theme) as a chorus. The story is a simple and archetypal one. The Disco Computer wants to smurf but cannot feel the groove because as a Computer he is not programmed to have feelings. The Disco Overlord taunts him ceaselessly and slowly the Funk Computer develops the ability to dance. Then like Icarus, the Funk Computer flies two close to the sun and pays dearly for it.
A tragic story for the ages. All set to an electro-groove. Take that Michelangelo.
