After getting a Bronx Cheer from Mother Nature, in the form of a storm that ruined conditions at Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, BAR Honda driver Alan Van Der Merwe took a 067 F1 car to nearly 266 mph on the tarmac of Mojave Airport in California this past Friday. The run makes Bar the unofficial fastest F1 team, despite the change in venue, which made the team ineligible for accreditation by the Bonneville Nationals folks. The team ran the car in F1 spec, though in Bonneville parlance, the 3-liter, unblown, open-wheel car is classified as a Lakester, the B-ville speed record for which is around 230mph. The team plans to return to the salt for another shot in May or June of 2006.
