In March, two New Jersey State Troopers were caught on camera escorting supercars at high speed on the Garden State Parkway.
The act was a breach of protocol and earned them both immediate suspensions.
Now, one of the troopers involved in the escort has resigned after 26 years on the force.
The trooper, Sgt. 1st Class Nadir Nassry, released the following statement:
I fully realize this matter has caused my superiors significant embarrassment and also has impacted the trust that the public has with regard to the great character of the New Jersey State Police. For this, I must take full responsibility.
But leaving the force is not the end of the battle. It is believed the state will be brining 3rd and 4th degree criminal charges against the two officers tomorrow and there is even the possibility that the officers will lose their pensions in disciplinary action from the State Police.
The police are allowed to provide escorts in certain cases, but this is one that definitely didn't qualify.
