March Muscle Car Madness: Round One, Day Two

There's smoke and the acrid smell of burning rubber everywhere. The ground is spattered with oil, and littered with tires, torn V-belts, piston rods, and what might be most of a horse. The first battles of our March Muscle Car Madness finished yesterday, but now we've got a whole new crop of muscle cars to vote on. Today, the other side of the bracket.

First, let's see how things went down yesterday.

For starters, we have the Zombies, with all their intra-family AMC warfare. It's like the Tudors or something. Here's the victors:

1971 AMC Javelin SST 75.9%

1970 AMC AMX 86.6%

1969 AMC SC/Rambler 71.1%

1972 Plymouth Road Runner 71.8%

1967 Plymouth GTX 83.1%

1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator 65.4%

1970 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler 76.2%

1968 Olds Cutlass 442 78.4%

So, for the Zombies, pretty decisive results. I sort of wished I had mixed the AMCs up more, but that's what the computerized algorithm (something involving the ratio of piston stroke to glove box volume) gave us. Onto the Rod Ragers:

1992 Ford Thunderbird SC 50.8%

1987 Buick GNX 67.0%

2003 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra 72.0%

1970 Ford Boss 302 Mustang 69.2%

1970 Buick GSX 56%.0%

2004 Roush Mustang GT 68.9%

2002 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 58.7%

1985 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS 73.1%

These matchups were a bit more exciting; look at that squeaker with the Thunderbird SC and the Maverick Grabber! The T-Bird took it, but just barely. I was rooting for the Grabber because, well, it's called the "Grabber." Also, the Boss v. Super Snake is a telling victory of hairy-chested tradition over modern tech. My only disappointment was the loss of the Cossie Vega, because, well, I'm a sucker for the weird.

Okay! Let's thin these ranks out some more: today, the Classics and the Drag Queens go at it. You know the drill. Vote— you have until midnight!
