In the air-cooled Volkswagen world, normally modified Beetles tend to get all the glory surprising feats of off-road skill. That’s why I was so delighted to see this video on the Vintage Volkswagen Group page. It’s like a loaf of bread forcing its way through a mud-stream. It’s great.
It makes sense that a Type 2 should be able to pull this off; it’s the same basic setup as a Baja bug, after all, just, you know, boxier. Still rear-engine traction, and early buses like this even used simple portal axles at the rear which gives even lower gearing.
But this isn’t really about the technical stuff; it’s just hilarious to watch.
