The proprietor of the Postive Ape Index lays it down on pioneering hot rod journalist Veda Orr, with a whole buttload of scans of incredible vintage rods, explaining how what worked on the lakes out of necessity became part of the visual language of speed. Included are a grip of illustrations by a youngster named Dick Teague, who went on to fame and fortune as the designer of the AMC Pacer. If there's one thing we've learned over the last decade, the older one gets, the smaller the world becomes. And nowhere is it more evident to us than in the relationship between Los Angeles, Detroit, San Francisco and New York.
