The kids at Kia World are reporting the South Korean automaker intends to reveal a gas-electric hybrid version of its 5-door cee'd hatch next to the Kia Soul from Seoul at the Paris Motor Show next month. Details are still sketchy, but it appears the Hybrid cee'd will feature a 1.6-liter gas engine supplemented by a 20 HP electric motor mounted on the crankshaft, likely turning the wheels through a CVT 'box. Given the electric motor's size and location, we'd bet this is a single-mode hybrid system like the one used by the Saturn Vue Green Line, unable to power the car in all-electric mode but capable of providing an electric boost during acceleration and performing stop/start duties. Expect some weight reduction measures, aero enhancements and the obligatory low-rolling-resistance tires to round out the package.
