Shortly after 5 AM this morning in Palm Beach, Florida, the driver of a red Corvette convertible rented from Hertz proved the maxim that the fastest car is a rental car, losing control, crashing through a guardrail, and landing upside down in a canal.

Corvette Blogger points out that the car is totaled, having suffered flood damage and lost its hood, trunk, and front fenders.

The driver and passenger were out of the vehicle when the fire department arrived. They were hospitalized with minor injuries and will be fine. It is not yet known if the driver will face any charges.
