Ford announced it was readying a new Equator truck concept to show at the Tokyo motor show. It's the first concept to bear the Equator name since 2000, when Ford unveiled the sport utility truck concept (pictured) that set the design direction for the current generation of Ford's F-something pickups. The the new concept, fitted with a 3.0-liter V6 linked to an intelligent 4WD system, will likewise inform Ford's next-generation of SUVs. But well-heeled car-design fans are advised to gather their krugerrands and head to Texas, because the 2000 Equator will be auctioned for charity.

Ford also announced today it was auctioning the previous Equator, a one-off design concept and channel the proceeds toward storm-ravaged regions in Texas through the Red Cross. The 2000 concept will be displayed at the State Fair of Texas, starting tomorrow and the auction will take place at the Kruse-Leake 33rd Anniversary Collector Car Auction in Dallas on Nov. 18-20.
