Exec: Hyundai Building Portico-Based Crossover, Eyeing Performance Models

Echoing a report from late last year, a Hyundai exec confirmed to Winding Road that the company's new crossover, expected in 2008, will be based on the 2005 Portico concept the company showed off at the Chicago show. That car's precious "dream catcher" grille may wind up on the cutting room floor, but its basic shape, which splits the difference between the Chrysler Pacifica and a can of Pepsi, will likely remain intact. The exec also says four yet unseen new vehicles will hit dealerships by 2010 — possibly including a new flagship sedan and a sports model possibly dubbed Tuscani. That last one's launch will probably tie in with Hyundai's Formula One debut, if we know our marketing tricks.
