Where are men like R. Buckminster Fuller today? Where is the insane genius that skirts the rules and works in many disciplines? Where are the Rennaisance men of technology? Where are the men who designed the Ford Nucleon? Or the engineers of Project Pluto? Or the Turbonique guys? What do we have instead? Those who go for blandness over greatness. These men were engineering rebels in the era of the gray flannel suit. Fuller's Dymaxion, while flawed, carried eleven people, would do 120mph and got 30mpg. It presaged the minivan by a half-century. And let's face it, things that look like zeppelins are cooler than things that look like wood-paneled Chrysler Town & Countries.
