The sad fact of the matter is that naturally aspirated V8s are dying out. There are only handful to choose from these days. Thankfully, the 2018 Maserati GranTurismo MC is one of them. So when we got our hands on one earlier this month, we did what any responsible adult would: we revved the everliving shit out of it on a busy Manhattan street for a video, which we now present to you. You’re welcome.
Maserati, for reasons best known to itself, still uses the 4.7-liter naturally aspirated Ferrari V8 in its flagship grand tourer. It doesn’t make the most power in the whole world, but my God does it sound incredible.
No turbocharges restrict its roar. Stick it in Sport mode, let those valves open up and it sounds like a completely different car. The levels crest higher, the note gets raspier, filthier. I apologized to no one for the racket. And neither should Maserati.
