Whether its clambering over the Utah desert in a taxicab or tearing across a frozen lake in Poland on ice thick enough to support tanks, driving in extreme conditions takes a certain measure of skill and preparation. Or maybe just a lot of practice, as Redbadge discovered:
A few years back we were on a rainforest safari in Queensland. FJ100 Land Cruiser with satellite phone, water tanks, snorkel, the whole bit. We had parked next to a roaring creek and our guide had just set up a picnic lunch when an aboriginal family in an '80s Ford Granada sedan, in various shades of primer, came roaring through the jungle, forded the stream, and proceeded to fishtail up the 20-degree mud slope on the other side. We then realized we had been grossly overcharged for our adventure.
